*The Birds Are Coming: A Soldier’s Story of War, Intercession, and Mercy* is a firsthand account of combat in Afghanistan and the journey of faith that followed.

Raul Medrano served as a U.S. Army forward observer alongside an Infantry platoon during Operation Enduring Freedom. The book follows his experiences in Afghanistan, including a prolonged ambush in which promised air support never arrived and the events that allowed the soldiers to make it out.

Years later, after returning to the Catholic faith he had left behind, Medrano began to look back on those events differently. Part combat memoir and part personal testimony, *The Birds Are Coming* explores war, survival, faith and the meaning we sometimes recognize only years later.
