Prescott Valley, Ariz.: Every year our town observers the 9/11 anniversary with a ceremony and the Healing Fields of Flags. American Legion members as well as others volunteer to place the flags, one for each person who perished that horrible day in New York, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania. Each flag has a name card, and firemen and first responders have a pair of boots or shoes placed at the base.

The emotional ceremony at the Civic Center was well attended. The program included a 21-gun salute and taps performed by our local American Legion Post 6. After the ceremony, floodlights illuminated the Healing Fields of Flags and the public strolled among the many rows. Parents pointed out things for their children to see and understand about a day that shall never be forgotten and live in infamy.
