The annual Ryan Winslow Post 911 Spring Fundraiser was completed with a drawing during the May meeting. Almost $5,200 was raised during the 88-day effort. John Straka, a member of Post 911, was drawn to receive the wooden American Flag wall art. Becky Brazeel, a member of the Auxiliary Unit 255 from Fultondale, received a Ruger LCR 9 mm revolver. Michael Garrett’s name was drawn for the Taurus 9 mm.
According to Peyton Ligon and Don Price, co-chairs of the fundraiser, volunteers set up the table to inform the public about the post and recruit members as well as to have tickets, hats and pins available for 21 days at Hoover Tactical Firearms. The table was also set up for two days at one gun show, and twice at the Ross Bridge Farmer’s Market, in April and May. Members turned in more than $400 for the tickets they bought or sold to family and friends.
“A huge thank you goes out to all (of our volunteers) who helped sell tickets, hats and pins, which ensure our Spring 2024 Fundraiser was a huge success,” they wrote in their final report. “This effort also allowed our post to gain more exposure throughout the Hoover community.” In addition to raising funds, the post signed up several new members.
Later in the meeting, the election process began. The officers for the 2024-2025 year are Commander Lynn Thomas, First Vice Commander Jeremy Orman, Second Vice Commander Fred Hughes, Sergeant-At-Arms Joe Roca, Chaplain Mike Walker and Public Affairs Officer Chris Cooper.
There was no one put on the slate for the position of historian by the Nominating Committee, so that position will be vacant at this time.
