Joe singing the Marine Corps Hymn.

Legionnaire/World War II Iwo Jima survivor first with President's Own Marine Band

Bristol, CT

Some weeks back while the government was shut down, members of the President's Own Marine Band visited Joe Caminiti at his home in Bristol, Ct. They had an idea and wanted Joe to be the first to sing the Marine Corps Hymn, and they recorded it, making it the first of many to come.
On Dec. 5 the band released it and posted the video on their official Facebook page.
Joe is the first of a number of Marine Corps veterans they plan to film singing the Hymn. Joe was chosen for being a World War II veteran, his part with the liberation of Guam and being one of so few still living Iwo Jima survivors.
The band also presented him with a coin and a signed picture.
In February Joe will travel to D.C. to take part in the 81st Iwo Jima Reunion. He has been asked to take part in placing wreaths on the Marine Corps Monument and the National World War II Monument.
This past March he traveled to the island of Iwoto (Iwo Jima) to place a wreath on the "Reunion of Honor" monument with the prime minister of Japan to honor and remember all who fought and died during that battle.
