On Aug. 8, 2026, Harris County (Ga.) Post 189, along with the City of Hamilton and Harris County, each formally proclaimed their support for Purple Heart recipients by formal designation on the Purple Heart Trail.

Post Commander Craig Rowan spent severs months preparing for a formal program that brought over 125 veterans and supporters to the Harris County Courthouse. Among those were members of Post 189, the Hamilton City Council and the Harris County Board of Commissioners.

Members of Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 492 in Columbus assisted with the formal designation.

All entities received and presented formal proclamations proclaiming Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Day in Hamilton and Harris County, Ga.
