On Nov. 2, the Civil Air Patrol helped Post 42 and Squadron 42 members clear the storage yard of weeds and grass. The cadets helped weed, rototill the soil, level the soil, install a weed barrier, position bricks and pavers to prevent weed growth, and facilitate people being able to use and access equipment from the storage shed inside. The shed itself houses picnic equipment including a grill, two griddles, a snowblower, show shovels and other outdoor tools belonging to Post 42.
Civil Air Patrol Commander Col. Charles Compton, Capt. Bill Klosa, SAL Squadron 42, and post board members Jim Farley and I all helped coordinate with the cadets as they performed a majority of the work by direction. Capt. David Kaput is also an SAL member and helped coordinate the event the work beforehand. Home Depot (on Normandy in Chicago) Brickyard ASDS Representative Amanda Suarez was instrumental in helping them donate materials for the Lean Too canopy for tank and chair storage.
The Civil Air Patrol usually meets at the Post 42 hall at 1900 hours Tuesday to teach young men and women the basics of military service and similar affiliations of the Air Force.
