American Legion Auxiliary Unit 18 donated an antique flag to the Naval War College (NWC) Museum where it could be properly displayed for the public to enjoy. Several years ago, the flag was examined by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History which determined that it was made between 1820 and 1850. After its provenance was documented, Unit 18 donated the much-coveted flag to the NWC Museum.
Conservators - including a textile expert - readied the flag for display. Mounted, framed and protected behind and ultra-violet shiled, it hangs in a large staircase.
