On Wednesday, December 16, 2009; The American Legion National Auxiliary President Rita Navarrete made a special visit to the American Legion 4th District posts and units. She came to American Legion Post/Unit #16 in Gainesville for a special luncheon in her honor as every table was decorated in red, white and blue! Among the guests were members' of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #155 of Crystal River.
Navarrete, a native of New Mexico, has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 40 years. She is a member of Otero-Garcia-Navarrete American Legion Auxiliary Unit #72 in New Mexico, a post that was named after her late father-in-law. After 37 years as a federal public servant and many leadership positions on the local, state and national levels of the American Legion Auxiliary; she is serving as the president of the nation’s largest women’s patriotic organization with more than 900,000 members.
