Post 208 (Kerrville, Texas) has been a vital resource for the disaster response to the catastrophic flooding on July 4, 2025. Their strategic location on the Guadalupe River and next door to the Kerr County fairgrounds - the Emergency Operations Center for the response - has allowed them to play a vital and key role in their community's recovery.
Within hours of the flooding, supplies started to roll into the post from all over the state, and the Bingo Hall became a general store that allowed residents to get a two-week supply of food and essentials. In addition to serving the public, there is a special area of the “general store” just for emergency responders. The store is open at 7:00 every morning and staffed by members of the Post 208 Legion Family and other Legion Family members throughout the Department of Texas and beyond.
Every morning, there is a steady flow of first responders getting essentials for their day and food before they head out to perform their search and rescue (SAR) operations. Along with providing for the emergency personnel at the Operations Center, they have partnered with American Core, LLC. American Core provides management, equipment and materials to organize volunteers for SAR/recovery operations and recovery operations for residents' homes. The partnership between Post 208 and American Core is getting Legionnaires on the front lines, helping multiple communities recover, and provide closure for the families that have been affected.
