Supporting youth and Americanism is one of the four pillars of The American Legion. For the past 3 years, Thomas M. Brady American Legion Post 45 along with Auxiliary Unit 45 have sponsored the Veterans Day Art Contest with local Hasty Elementary and Fine Arts Academy. The school created a school wide K-5th grade poster competition focused on thanking veterans for their service as part of their overall Veterans Day celebration.
Each class working, with the school's art teacher, creates a theme for the poster contest and then submits them to the Legion for overall selection of the class poster contest winner and the overall school grand champion and reserve champion. Art prizes and ribbons for the winners are presented by the Legion to the winners, and all of the art poster contestants and their artwork are then displayed at the Veterans Day breakfast ceremony.
"It is a great thing to see our youth still understanding the service provided by our military veterans as part of this event," noted Auxiliary President Betty Lewis. "It is a fun event that allows our post to be closer to the youth in our community."
Members of the post attend the Veterans Day Breakfast and event to lend support to the teachers at the school yearly.
