On May 16, members of Holley-Riddle American Legion Post 21, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 21 and Scout Troop 226 came together with one shared mission — serving the community and supporting mental health awareness at the NAMIWalks North Texas event.
Giving up their Saturday morning without hesitation, these dedicated volunteers brought energy, encouragement and heart to every step of the walk. Stationed along the 2-mile course, they manned the water stop, handing out dozens of bottles of water to hundreds of walkers. But they offered far more than hydration — their cheers, smiles and enthusiasm motivated participants to keep pushing forward and reminded everyone that they were supported every step of the way.
One of the most popular stops on the course was Post 21’s special “Doggie Hydration Station” for the four-legged walkers joining the event. Tail wags were everywhere as thirsty pups stopped for a drink before rewarding volunteers with plenty of happy wet kisses. The stop quickly became a favorite highlight for participants and spectators alike.
Scout Troop 226 stepped up in a tremendous way throughout the morning. The Scouts enthusiastically cheered on walkers, helped keep participants hydrated, and provided directions to ensure everyone stayed safely on course. Their positive attitudes and willingness to serve demonstrated the very best of community spirit and adherence to the Scout Oath of service and helping others.
Events like NAMIWalks are about more than completing a course — they are about coming together, supporting one another, and showing that no one walks alone. Thanks to the combined efforts of Post 21, SAL Squadron 21 and Troop 226, the event was filled with encouragement, compassion and smiles from start to finish.
When organizations unite in service, incredible things happen — and this event was a shining example of our community at its very best.
