The American Legion Magazine has received two requests for assistance in locating D-Day/Normandy veterans or their survivors.
Louis Leprince, whose family lived in Normandy during and after the D-Day invasion, says, "My family had hidden four paratroopers, but I only have the name of three (John Soares, Sgt. Warren Shaw, Walter Reeve). They were hidden at Louis Lefebvre (my great-great-grandfather) at the denisoterie (Prétot)." He can be reached at louislep@hotmail.fr.
Peter Williams is a British filmmaker who says, "I interviewed scores of U.S. veterans 40 years ago for a series for British television titled 'The Road to D Day.' As is the way with television, there was room for only a fraction of the excellent stories they told, about themselves and about the huge operation in which they were involved. As part of my retirement 'bucket list,' I'd like to see the families/units are aware that these filmed/taped interviews exist and that they have been archived. They are unique and historic, and to families a valuable part of their heritage. It would be sad to feel they may be destroyed once I have passed on." The interviewees include:
