In 1969 the war in Vietnam was at its height. I was in my senior year of college when the draft caught up to me. It was now a choice of two years in the Army or four in the Navy. I wound up serving on two different ships (USS Midway and USS Kitty Hawk) and two tours on Yankee Station. My father was in the Army during World War II, and when I finally got back home, he looked at me with newfound respect and admiration. I had made PO2 in three years and the experience totally changed my life, for the better.
