As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, I felt inspired to create a music project reflecting on the nation’s history and the ideals that have shaped it. Several members of my extended family have served in the U.S. military, and honoring the sacrifices of those who served is one of the reasons I felt inspired to create this project.
On my father’s side, two of my uncles served during World War II in the U.S. Army. One was stationed in the Aleutian Islands campaign off Alaska, and the other served in the North African campaign, where U.S. forces operated under leaders such as George S. Patton. Like many American families, our history is tied directly to those who answered the call to serve.
On my mother’s side, that tradition of service continued. A cousin attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and recently retired as a lieutenant colonel. Seeing that commitment carried across generations has only deepened my respect for those who serve.
Those connections - and the countless others like them across the country - helped inspire the album "Stand Up Free: 250 Years." The album is a patriotic country project reflecting on the American story - from the founding generation who signed their names to independence, to the generations of Americans who have defended the freedoms those signatures began.
One of the songs on the album is dedicated specifically to the service and sacrifice of the U.S. military, while another reflects on the continuing role of those who have defended the nation throughout its history.
The project was created as a tribute to the spirit of the American people and the ideals that have guided the nation for nearly two-and-a-half centuries. As the country approaches this historic milestone, it seemed like the right moment to reflect on where the nation began and the generations who helped preserve it.
