Pennsylvania post commissions colony cutouts for 250th celebration

Greenville, VA

Post 140 in Greenville, Pa., commissioned a display of the original 13 colony states to celebrate America's 250th birthday. The plywood cutouts, measuring approximately 4' X 3', were placed for public viewing outside the post grounds on June 27.
The cutouts were done by carpentry students at the Mercer County Vo-Tech in Mercer, Pa. Art students at Greenville Senior High School painted and filled in historical information, such as the location of each state's first settlement, famous battle sites and economic products.
The shapes are exactly what the states look like in their present state; we did not include the parts of colonial New York and Virginia that later became Vermont and West Virginia. They really make a wonderful display.
This project showed the willingness and cooperation of the American spirit to achieve a worthy goal.
