I chose the U.S. Army because others were doing it and being recognized in the local newspaper. It turned out to be the smartest decision I ever made. After qualifying in the top 10% for the officer candidate test, I was promoted to PvtE-2 ahead of my squad leaders and SP4 in a year and a half.
