American Legion Post 189 has been heavily engaged with the community for the past eight months and has begun to see the fruits of their labors. Today we highlight two partnerships that are making a difference for our veterans and first responders in our community.
The first partnership is with Lee Garcia, a veteran and owner of Foundation Training Facility in Waverly Hall, Ga. He is a retired Army Ranger and one of the newest members of Post 189. He began a program that allows veterans with PTSD to come in and work out then stay for a mental health meeting. Lee is a veteran small-business owner and a Be the One activity.
The newest partnership is with Hamilton Family Dentistry. One of our members had recently visited the office and found out that on 9/11 they give free cleanings, extractions, fillings and other work to veterans and first responders. Once Post 189 learned of this we began to get the word out, and the office saw over 40 patients. All the dental staff were volunteers and Post 189 recognized their work with a Certificate of Appreciation.
American Legion Post 189 continues to support Be the One. We understand that physical health is a strong component of mental health.
