Post 156 (Paola, Kan.) "Be the One" training

Paola, KS

Miami American Legion Post 156 in Paola, Kan., held their first VA S.A.V.E. training on Jan. 11, 2025. Invitees included the local community, nearby Legion Family posts, the Legion Family district and Legionnaires from across the Department of Kansas to promote “Be the One” events (including the S.A.V.E. training) across the state. Invites were sent through social media, local county newspaper print, and flyers through local businesses.
The VA S.A.V.E. training was presented by the VA Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Miami County area. Additional VA presenters covered Whole Health, Veterans Justice Outreach, and Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator. The Elizabeth Layton Center Veterans Services liaison presented their role in helping veterans. Attendees were instructed on registering for the Columbia Protocol Training for additional tools for assisting and saving a veteran in crisis.
A veteran service representative from the Kansas Office of Veterans Services attended to help any veterans with claims questions or filing. Also in attendance was a VA representative for signing up for VA services.
Attendees found the training and presenters very informative and inspiring to spread the mission of “Be the One”.
Miami Post 156 has a great group of Legion Family members who are dedicated to helping veterans, as well as Legion Family members, from across the 2nd District and across the Department of Kansas.
