AUSTIN, Texas – (July 12, 2025) – Oliver Burke of Dallas, the Department of Texas and American Legion National Eagle Scout of the Year, addressed Legionnaires during the department’s annual convention held at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.

As the Legion’s Eagle Scout of the Year, he will receive a $10,000 college scholarship.

A 2024 graduate of Greenhill School, Burke plans to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall.

The American Legion has supported Scouting America since 1919. Today, Legion posts sponsor more than 2,500 Scouting units across the country.

The American Legion is the largest U.S. veterans organization with nearly 2 million members in more than 12,000 posts across the nation and in foreign countries.

Chartered by Congress in 1919, The American Legion is dedicated to the motto of “Veterans Strengthening America.” Legionnaires accomplish this through the organization’s four founding pillars of mentoring youth and sponsoring wholesome community programs, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to servicemembers and veterans.
