John J. Morris Post 62 honors Luis Marquez as Star of Desert Sky

Peoria, AZ

On May 1, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) honored Luis Marquez with a Stars of the Desert Sky Award. The award is given to people inside the post who shine above others. Luis walked into Post 62 about seven months ago, a snowbird from Wisconsin. He immediately fell in love with the post and transferred his membership. He is going home for the summer, perhaps the last full summer there as he bought a house near the post this winter. He believes you should be involved in where you belong. He has worked almost every weekend checking memberships at the door since the process was started to free up time for duty officers to do other things. He has been helping with bingo whenever asked. He also just graduated from the Guitars 4 Vets class, which was 12 weeks of training classes. In a few months he has stepped up more than most members do in years. Volunteers keep the post running, and he is a shining example. A salute to Luis Marquez for the way he has stepped up and participated in the post.
