John J. Morris Post 62 honors James Donald Crook as Veteran of the Month

Peoria, AZ

On March 1, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) honored James "Don" Crook as March's Veteran of the Month. His flag will be flown over the post for the whole month then returned to the family. Don was in the Army and part of a short-lived experiment from 1963 to 1965 to develop and validate helicopter-based air assault tactics. This led to the formation of the 1st Cavalry Division-Airmobile. Many of the concepts tested were carried directly into Vietnam operations. Following his military days, he met the love of his live Coni. They had two children and one grandchild (two more grandchildren after his passing). He was a history buff and avid stamp and coin collector. Rest in peace in Post Everlasting, Don.

Our Legion Riders were there in support as they are every month.

Bugler stands alone to play his music.

His flag was unfolded and is being raised. Army flag on hand to support his time in service.

Post Commander Bob Singer read Don's story to all those in attendance.
