American Legion national commander visits Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum

Fort Wayne, IN

American Legion National Commander James A. LaCoursiere Jr. accompanied by Department of Indiana Commander Robert Burkhart, visited the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum at Fort Wayne, Ind., On April 18.  The commanders had a first responder escort with the Allen County Sheriff's and Aboite Fire departments.

LaCoursiere made a brief address prior to his museum and shrine tour.  Some high school students made a donation to The American Legion.; he gladly accepted the check to assist the needs of veterans.  

The commander toured the museum first, then the outdoor grounds of the Veterans National Memorial Shrine. He visited the following monuments: Vietnam Veterans Wall, the new chapel, Purple Heart, Gold Star and Civil War monuments.  

The commanders were escorted out of the parking lot by the Aboite Fire Department, American Legion Riders and commanders' aides.


Members of the Legion honor America with the singing of our national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

LaCoursiere receives a standing ovation from Shrine and Museum board members, American Legion members and guests prior to his address.
