Members and friends of Sauls-Bridges Post 13 held its annual ceremony marking the anniversary of the Four Chaplains who gave up their life vests to other troops so they could have a chance for survival. This solemn occasion retold the heroic sacrifice of the four chaplains who were on board the troop ship Dorchester, which was attacked by a German U-boat during WWII.
Local pastors, our large Tallahassee temple rabbi, and Catholic priest each retold the stories of each of the four chaplains and lit a candle in their memory.
A visual reminder from WWII was part of the ceremony: a life vest, shown to give a real-world example of what the chaplains wore at that time.
During the Sunday afternoon of Feb 1, 2026, Post 13 also provided the attendees a ceremony called Post Everlasting.
The honor guard set up the brazier, and Post Commander Dennis Hall was provided a list of Legion members who passed away in 2025.
Then the Auxiliary was asked to remember their loss, and provided a moment of reflection out of respect for the loss of one of their own.
