John J. Morris Post 62 Riders show support for a brother at Ira H. Hayes Post 84

Peoria, AZ

On March 5, the John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) Riders presented a check to Ira H. Hayes Post 84 for $1,000. The Riders, represented by Assistant Director Larry Tank, approved the support at the March meeting to present to Post 84 at the general meeting. A fellow Marine like Hayes, Larry said at the presentation, "Ira H. Hayes is the most famous veteran from Arizona and I am proud to be a Marine as he was." The entire room full of Legion members rose to their feet to salute the Post 62 Riders, and each was taking a picture of the presentation. 2nd Vice Commander Leslie Jackson accepted the check with a huge smile. One possibility for the money is helping them create an Honor Walk honoring the 24 KIA from the Gila River Indian Community. Adjutant Tony McDaniel stated that is their next major event. On Sept. 1, Post 62 will honor Hayes as their veteran of the month. Post 84 will be bringing a busload to attend the event. It will be escorted in by the Post 62 Riders.
