When the North Texas Community Food Pantry found itself critically short-staffed just days before its major fundraising event, it knew exactly who to call: Holley-Riddle Post 21.
The pantry, located in The Colony, is dedicated to serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, ensuring no one in the community goes hungry. Through nutritious food assistance and essential resources, the organization works to meet the diverse needs of those facing difficult times.
When Volunteer Coordinator Cindy DePrater reached out for help, Post 21 Commander Mary Garcia answered without hesitation. She immediately issued a call to members of Post 21 and Sons of The American Legion Squadron 21 seeking volunteers to support the pantry’s annual Tackling Hunger fundraiser.
The response was immediate. Within hours, a dozen members of Post 21 and Squadron 21 stepped forward to help. On May 2, those American Legion Family volunteers each dedicated six hours of service to ensure the event’s success, taking on everything from setup and guest greetings to food service and final cleanup.
“Our event was a huge success, thanks to your volunteers who showed up in a big way,” said DePrater. “Whether acting as a leader or a team player, everyone jumped in and worked hard all night.”
The effort once again demonstrated Post 21’s unwavering commitment to community service and its guiding principle: “We are a service organization, not an organization waiting to be served.”
