Honoring those who are not with us.

Balaam Jones Post 510 "Buffalo Soldiers" 2026 Memorial Day celebration

Balaam Jones Post 510 - Leesville , LA

What a great Memorial Day at Balaam Jones American Legion Post 510! We had a wonderful turnout of members, family, friends and community supporters who came together to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Earlier in the morning, miniature American flags were placed at the gravesites of post members and local veterans, reminding us all of the true meaning of Memorial Day. A special thanks to Comrade Robert Waller and all who assisted him.

The food was outstanding! Paul's ribs were a crowd favorite, along with chicken quarters, link sausages, Hendrix Feliciano's famous maque choux (a popular Louisiana season corn mix), Comrade Brown's Cajun rice and Darren Sanders' Cajun baked beans. Nobody left hungry!

Commander Derrick Brock requested that each member share their thoughts on the significance of this day, which became the highlight of the event. Post Historian Otis Baskerville provided a brief history of how Memorial Day was first observed. Following that, Chaplain Melvin Staudamire blessed the food. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food, the camaraderie, the dominoes, the cards and the music.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day special. Most importantly, thank you to the heroes we honor on Memorial Day. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
