OPERATION LEGACY: PRESERVING THE VOICES OF VETERANS FOR GENERATIONS
Steven H. Nipp Post 143 launches ongoing program to preserve veterans’ life stories.
POST FALLS, IDAHO — September 21, 2026
Sept. 21, 2026, marked a historic day for Steven H. Nipp American Legion Post 143 in Post Falls, Idaho. Four veterans became the first recipients of Operation Legacy, an initiative created to professionally preserve veterans’ stories, voices, memories and life experiences for their families and future generations.
It was more than the presentation of four videos.
It was the beginning of a legacy.
Every veteran has a story worth preserving.
A photograph can preserve a moment. A written history can preserve facts.
But a Legacy Video preserves something more personal:
The veteran themselves.
Their voice. Their expressions. Their laughter. Their memories. And the stories only they can tell.
Operation Legacy recognizes that a veteran’s story extends far beyond military service. It includes childhood, family, friendships, careers, accomplishments, hardships, lessons learned and the moments that shaped a life.
The Legacy Videos are professionally produced by Time of Your Life Media, working with Post 143 to capture each veteran in their own voice and words, creating a lasting family heirloom that can be passed from one generation to the next.
A HISTORIC FIRST — AND ONLY THE BEGINNING
During the Sept. 21 presentation, four veterans received their completed personal Legacy Videos — created not simply for today, but for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Post 143 has committed to making Operation Legacy an ongoing program, providing up to three Legacy Videos each month through its continuing nomination process, based on sponsorship support.
The program is also beginning to receive local newspaper attention, helping raise awareness of the importance of preserving veterans’ personal histories before those stories are lost.
“Operation Legacy gives us an opportunity to honor our veterans in a deeply personal and lasting way. By preserving their stories in their own voices, we are giving their families something that can never truly be replaced.” - Commander Tim Shaw, American Legion Steven H. Nipp Post 143
IMAGINE DECADES FROM NOW
• A grandchild sits down and watches the video.
• The veteran may no longer be there.
• But suddenly, there they are. Their face appears on the screen. Their voice fills the room.
• They tell a story. They smile. Perhaps they laugh.
• And for a few precious moments, the distance between generations disappears.
ONE DAY, THIS MAY BE THE MOST PRECIOUS PART OF YOUR FAMILY'S LEGACY.
Not because of what it is worth.
Because of who it preserves.
Your family can still see you.
Hear your voice.
Listen to your stories.
Learn from your experiences.
And pass your legacy on to the generations who follow.
Your Story. Your Service. Your Voice. Your Legacy. Preserved.
OPERATION LEGACY
Honor Their Service. Preserve Their Story.
