Memorial Day

American Legion Post 15 (Dade City, Fla.) held a Memorial Day ceremony for the community, its supporters, members and area veterans. The Dade City American Legion has been serving area veterans for more than 100 years and has a rich history. Its namesake is Cpl. Gordon M. Crothers, a local resident and World War I Army veteran who was tragically killed in France during the war.
Our ceremony was attended by Dade City Mayor Scott Black, area Girl Scouts, Auxiliary members and even, glad to say, a Korean War veteran.
We had a full program and were fortunate the rain had just stopped. The afternoon consisted of an introduction, moment of silence, blessing, speech of what Memorial Day represents, singing of our national anthem by Ann P. Mission, National Patriot Lifetime Queen, the Pledge of Allegiance by Commander-elect Curtis Matthews, Our Flag ceremony by PJ Williams, Commander Enering and Doug Oren Adams, and sounding of taps by Daniel Hier assisted by Kay Davis. Our new Honor Guard, formed earlier this year, was a true success and performed as one after having practiced numerous times.

Everyone then attended a luncheon of hot dogs with chili and trimmings, baked beans, pickles and even chilled watermelon. The day was a true success. “For God and Country”

Respectfully submitted by the Legionnaires of Post 15, Post 15 Honor Guard and Post Commander Matthew Enering.
