My dad - Pop, as we call him - joined the U.S. Marines shortly after high school in 1942. In that same year his father, a World War I vet and commander of the local post, signed him up with the Legion. He went on to serve with the 3rd Division, 9th Marines at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. His membership has never expired. He has been a member since 18 and is now 102. He is currently a member of the Sun City Center, Fla., post. If there are active longer-continuous members, we would love to hear from you. The attached picture was taken on Guadalcanal in 1942. Mahoney is kneeling on the right (half the Marines in this picture would not survive to see the end of the war).
