The Thirteenth District, known as "The Fighting 13th," Department of Virginia held a District-wide collection for "Toys for Tots."
This is the first known instance of a District collecting for this program. The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, working hand-in-hand, collected 1,025 toys for the "Toys for Tots" program.
After making the initial donation, posts within the 13th District continued to collect toys. Post 74 in Albemarle County, for example, collected an additional 250 toys for the program. Post 175 in Mechanicsville collected an additional 150 toys, which were donated to Children's Hospital in Richmond for the children in the cancer and burn wards.
