American Legion Post 38 of South Korea celebrated their 10th birthday/anniversary during the post's monthly meeting on Oct. 18, 2025, at Mapo, Korea and on Zoom. A cake-cutting ceremony was conducted immediately after the monthly meeting. A special guest - charter member, and former post and department commander, William Wight - attended the meeting/ceremony via Zoom. Wight spoke to the post Legionnaires about the importance of recruiting members and community involvement. Wight was the second commander in the history of Post 38.
Post 38, officially known as Col. Lewis L. Millett Memorial Post 38, is the first American Legion post established in South Korea and was chartered in 2015. Its name honors Millett, a Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War. The post's numeral, "38," symbolizes the 38th parallel, the historical border between North and South Korea.
On May 7, 2015, a temporary charter was granted to Post 38 by the National Executive Committee of The American Legion. Sixteen Legionaries are listed on the temporary charter: Michael Napsey, William Wight, Steven Tharp, Gary Hewitt, Brian Daiello, Casey Roberts, William Black Jr, Donald Wong, William Beatty, Anthony Biagianti, Robert Hochmuth, David Hill, Angelo Rotger, David Sisney, Michael Higgins and Albert Deloney III. Post 38 was granted its permanent charter on Oct. 14, 2015.
