As Marines, we share more than just service - we share a way of speaking that reflects who we are: our grit, humor, pride and unbreakable brotherhood. Over the years, I began collecting the sayings, slang and stories that define the Corps’ unique spirit. That effort became "The Devil Dog Dictionary" - a labor of love and responsibility dedicated to preserving the language of Marines for the 250th birthday of the Corps on Nov. 10, 2025.
The book includes hundreds of terms, acronyms and expressions used across generations, each carefully defined and infused with Marine Corps history and culture. My goal is to honor those who came before us and keep this living heritage alive for those still earning the title “Marine.”
If you’ve ever told a boot to sound off, remembered the rhythm of cadence or taken pride in speaking the language only Marines understand, this book is for you.
Semper Fidelis,
