Building bridges: a high schooler's journey to support our veterans

Hi, I'm a junior at Fieldston High School in New York City. I'm the daughter of a Navy veteran, and a few years ago I noticed something that really bothered me - military perspectives were seriously underrepresented at my school. So I did something about it: I took on leadership of a chapter of the national Whisky Bravo Club, which is dedicated to supporting and advocating for veterans, active servicemembers and their families.

Through the club, we raise money for vets and servicemembers, send care packages to those who are deployed, and bring speakers to school to share military perspectives. Our Veterans Day events are something I'm really proud of.

But my biggest project grew out of volunteering at VA hospitals in Connecticut. Talking with veterans, I kept hearing about challenges that weren't being officially recognized - and I felt like their stories deserved to be heard. So I built a website, echo-locations.com, where veterans can share their experiences and connect with one another.

What started as a place to publish stories has grown into something more. Every month, I host virtual calls that bring vets together from across the country - beyond their local communities. Watching those connections form has honestly been one of the most meaningful things I've ever done.

I've seen firsthand how powerful it is when veterans share their stories - for themselves and for each other. If you're a vet with a story to tell, I'd love for you to be part of this community. Please visit echo-locations.com. Your story matters, and there are people out there who need to hear it.
