SAN ANTONIO – (Nov. 19, 2025) – Continuing to assist local families on the East Side during the holiday season, Legionnaires of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 donated $2,000 in H-E-B gift cards to 40 families of students attending Booker T. Washington Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, Ferdinand Herff Elementary and Smith Elementary schools, all within the San Antonio Independent School District.
According to Post Chaplain and Youth Chair Patricia Wimberly, it is the post’s duty to establish programs that are guided by the four pillars of The American Legion: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.
“Fred Brock Post 828 is excited to play a part in supporting youth and their families during the Thanksgiving holiday by assisting with putting food on their tables,” said Wimberly. “We, as an organization, will continue to strengthen and support the family unit and provide services for children and youth.”
According to Post Commander Amanda Parham, Fred Brock Post 828 strongly supports traditional family values and activities that promote a healthy and wholesome development with providing a meaningful service.
“Service is our foundation, and being able to offer a helping hand - especially during a time meant for gratitude, fellowship and togetherness - is an honor for all of us at Post 828,” Parham said. "Post 828 remains committed to uplifting the Eastside community through year-round programs focused on service, education and outreach."
Post 828’s next program in support of its youth will be Project Shoes in December, which provides high school-aged students within the post’s area of responsibility with new shoes to start off the new year.
Fred Brock Post 828’s mission is to enhance the well-being of San Antonio’s veterans, their families, the military and the community by its devotion to mutual helpfulness.
