Commander Post #39 Norristown, PA.
I believe this post has done incredible things for our community over the past few years and deserves this recognition. As recent as today, June 13th, 2012, the Commander and his Adjutant presented 4 students from the Stewart Middle School graduating class of 2012 with plaques, certificates and $100 check towards their education. They have been doing this for 10 years. This will also be the 3rd year for their Annual Children's Block Party.
This is something my husband started himself back in 2009 and does about 80% of the work for this event. He contacts the township to request the blockage of the street, he contacts the neighbors to advise them of the function and to invite them to bring their children, he contacts markets for requests for donations of food, drink or monetary donations to provide hotdogs, chips, water, etc to the children and their families, he facilitates the entertainment for the children, including horseback riding, moon bounce, dunk tank, area firemen giving safety instructions and a little relief from the heat, and also since he is a member of the area motorcycle club, they put together schoolbags for the children filled with supplies. Many people in the neighbor truly enjoy this event and the children have a tremendous amount of fun. Keeping in mind all of this is of course provided to the neighborhood for FREE.
I love the closeness the event brings to the community as well as the joy in my husband when the event comes together and we can see the smiles and hear the laughs of the children.
