Department of Arizona salutes Army veteran Ron DiBiasio

Phoenix, AZ

Ron DiBiasio is an Army field artillery veteran. He is also a post chaplain (Post 105) and department chaplain, along with being a member of the Legion Riders. Ron recently retired after 33 years working for a nonprofit specializing in serving people with special needs. He was a job coach teaching vocational skills to get them better ready for community employment. He is an ordained reverend but prefers to just be called chaplain, and is always at the ready day and night to talk with veterans in need - can you say Be the One? Ron says, "My devotion is to Jesus and being obedient to his commandments," and that he enjoys putting smiles on people's faces. That might be why he plays Santa every year with the Peoria Fire Fighters for Christmas for those with special needs at the Peoria Rec. Center. Though retired, he still provides respite for two families by taking Mike and Joelle every weekend. On Fridays he takes them to Post 62 so Mike and Joelle can dance the night away. The post loves seeing them come in, and everybody has to stop to say hello. Then on Sundays, he takes them bowling. He has performed over 40 celebrations of life and even gets calls from local funeral homes to help them if they need a chaplain. As department chaplain, he always does the opening prayer to kick off American Legion Baseball in Wickenburg. He gives the opening and closing prayers when the traveling Vietnam Wall comes to the West Valley of Phoenix. Another of his enjoyments is presenting JROTC awards at several local high schools, where he enjoys meeting with the cadets. When asked since he is now retired what are his plans - to keep doing what he has been but maybe travel Arizona with a pup tent and sleeping bag to see the sights - camping the way he did in the Army! Arizona salutes a great man dedicated to The American Legion and more! In closing he mentioned one more thing - he is always collecting free Bibles to give out in his prison ministry. If you would like to support that, contact American Legion Arizona.
