I joined the Navy for several reasons. I was raised by a hardcore lifer Army paratrooper who reached command sergeant major, and I wanted to see the world and get away from the area I grew up in. Also, I needed to get away before I got into trouble like most of the people my age then. Although proud of my joining, my father preferred me join the Army. May he respectfully RIP.
I must admit that I was also intrigued about exploring the ocean, thanks to shows like "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and the funny side of "McHale's Navy."
