SAN ANTONIO – (Oct. 24, 2025) – Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 was one of 10 Social Justice honorees recognized at the 75th Diamond Jubilee Freedom Fund Dinner hosted by the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP at the Boeing Center at Tech Port.

The post received the award for hosting events and activities designed to bring people together and address community needs. In addition to hosting public observances such as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, the post was honored for its investment in today’s youth in support of scholarships, Scouting, oratorical contests and Texas Boys State.

“Being honored by our local NAACP branch is deeply meaningful to our American Legion post,” said Post Commander Amanda Parham. “It represents a recognition of our shared commitment to community service, justice and equality."

According to Parham, a retired Army nurse, the NAACP’s acknowledgment affirms that the post’s efforts to support veterans, uplift neighborhoods and promote unity are making a real difference.

“This honor is not only a reflection of our past and present work, but also an inspiration to continue building bridges and serving all members of our community with integrity and pride,” she said.

By supporting the NAACP, Post 828 helps strengthen communities, preserve the progress made through generations of advocacy, and continue the ongoing fight against discrimination and inequality.

“The NAACP’s mission aligns closely with the values of service, unity and respect that organizations like The American Legion hold dear,” said Parham. “Together, we can make a lasting difference in creating a more just and inclusive society.”

Organized in 1918, the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP has long been in the forefront of the struggle for equality. As early as 1949, testimonial dinners were held that highlighted national and branch accomplishments while acknowledging the efforts of members and progressive citizens who were leaders in the fight for social justice.

In the decades since the initial Freedom Fund Dinners, the branch has annually honored those in our community who work tirelessly to ensure the political and educational equality of rights of all persons, and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. Past honorees have come from fields as diverse as religion, sports, local/state/national elected office, medicine, small and corporate business, jurisprudence, education and the military.
