On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the Coldwater Elementary (Coldwater, Ohio) fourth-grade students had the special opportunity to take part in a culminating activity for a Flag Education Program. Sponsored nationwide by The American Legion and supported locally by American Legion Post 470 in Coldwater, this program provided students with a meaningful learning experience centered on the American flag.
Students received educational materials, including a comic book, which were used in the classroom to explore the history, symbolism and proper respect for our nation’s flag. Through these lessons, students developed a deeper understanding of what the flag represents to Americans. The top students from each fourth-grade class were recognized for their efforts. The overall top winning boy and girl will advance on to the district level.
We are especially grateful to Post 470 Commander Mike Braun, 1st Vice Commander Patti Depweg and Adjutant Martha Brannon for their time, dedication and service. Along with their flag-folding demonstration and question-and-answer session, this brought the program to life. Post 470's generosity in providing a T-shirt for every participating student and teacher made the experience even more memorable. We sincerely thank them and the post for helping make this program such a meaningful and impactful experience for our students.
The top winners from each class were: Jameson Tobe, Lucy Will, Paul Franzer, Layla Stromblad, Briggs Geier, Caroline Kanney, Grant Bertke, Isla Balster, Bennett Dobmeyer, Jemma Bettinger, Briggs Winner, Mila Alig, Ryker Berger and Emma Selhorst.
The overall winners moving on to district are Ryker Berger and Emma Selhorst.
