A veteran's reflection for Memorial Day

This poem was written earlier this year by my father-in-law, Otis Veteto, who is 88. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base, where he served as an X-ray technician and was deeply involved in base community life. His poem reflects on his lifelong pride in service and his perspective on freedom.

My Uniform

I wear my uniform
Because I care
I fight for my country
For the freedom we share
It's ok, if you don't agree
Because, my friend
You will continue to be free.
There will always be those
Who raise their right hand
and swear before God
To protect this great land.
I wear my uniform
with unquestionable pride.
I wear my uniform with God at my side.
